Rep. Simpson Cosponsors Bill to Support Idaho State Veterans Homes

WASHINGTON—Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson cosponsored the Waiving Arbitrary and Inconsistent Veteran Home Requirements (WAIVER) Act. This bill would require the United States Veterans Administration (VA) to issue waivers for veterans’ health and housing facilities that were approved prior to the Build America, Buy America Act (BABAA).

“It’s important for the VA to follow through with this waiver commitment so we can fulfill the promises made to those who served in our nation’s uniform,” said Rep. Simpson. “I’m calling on the VA to work with me on a solution for these projects and critically important services for Idaho Veterans. Make no mistake, our veterans served our nation in our time of need, and I consider it my duty to stand with them in their time of need. I will continue to advocate for both veterans in Idaho and our veterans’ health and housing facilities and will not rest until we find a solution.”

The already-approved Idaho State Veterans Home expansion is now on hold due to BABAA. Without a waiver, these projects are at risk for loss of funding. The three facilities affected in Idaho are Boise, Lewiston, and Pocatello. Additionally, projects in 13 states—including Idaho—have been affected by BABAA waiver issues.
