Amnesty

While I recognize that legal immigration is in the long-term interest of the United States, I strongly believe that we must ensure that the borders are secure and discourage illegal immigration by fixing our broken immigration laws. This is why I have continuously opposed the previous  Administration's proposals that would grant outright amnesty to illegal aliens in the United States.

I am not opposed to citizens of other nations immigrating to the U.S. in an effort to provide a better life for themselves and their families. We are a nation founded upon immigration. In a sense we are all immigrants. That being said, I am a firm believer that this immigration must be conducted by legal means.

By all counts illegal immigration undermines this country’s legal immigration process. There is currently a list of millions of eligible people waiting to be admitted to this country via legal channels; some have been on that list for decades. By entering this country illegally, illegal immigrants mock those who respect our nation’s sovereignty and legal immigration process.
